Sonar 5.1 HEADSET Mic not working

Category: Technical Support Replies: 2

Product: Sonar 5.1 Headset
Driver/Software: 5.12.7.108
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
First of all these things are awesome, BUT I have not been able to get the mic working, or if I do I get no sound, so its either mic or sound but never both, AND it always says USB device has exceeded its bandwidth. I bought these as a gaming headset, but I cant use the mic? any help would be greatly apprecidated, I have looked online in forums and every review I have read say the same thing, no mic.

thanks,

-Sean-

Hi Sean

I am glad that you are enjoying the Sonar 5.1 Headset.

About the USB bandwidth problem, this is not directly related to the headset but more to do with your USB host controller and the devices connected to it. Since the headset has 6 channels of audio plus mic it does need a reasonable precentage of the bandwidth available from one USB host controller.

If you search the web for 'usb bandwidth exceeded' you will see quite a lot of references and suggestions about this problem. e.g. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884470/

In summary:

- The headset should be connected directly to a USB port on the PC, not to a hub.

- Your PC probably has more than one USB host controller, each of which has a couple of USB ports connected to it. Ideally the headset should not be sharing a USB host controller with other devices. There is a lot of variation between different PCs so I can't comment on your particular configuration, but your motherboard user manual would be a good place to start.

- Some people have installed additional PCI USB controllers and solved the problem. This is especially applicable if your PC has only one controller.

- There are a few reports of USB cable/ADSL modems or other networking devices causing this problem - if you are connected to a network via USB please make double sure it is on a different USB host controller.

- You could try updating the drivers for your USB controller(s) / motherboard

I hope this helps.

Regards
Laurence
